I am sharing with you the latest email The Earth Foundation received this week with a progress report from Dr Estacio, Trustee of the Balay Silonganan Home for Street Children.

TEF's role in running CCN's corporate sponsorship programme of Balay Silonganan includes the monitoring of funds aand to ensure they are used how they are intended.  You can see from Dr Estacio's email the difference CCN's sponsorship already makes to the boys' lives!

Dear Sabine

Attached please find two separate financial reports for the first quarter of the year. Likewise please find our initial reports on 3 of our children.

Earth Foundation funds as shown in our records. The reports on our children were made by our new full time Social Worker, E. Additional reports will be coming as she completes all the children’s records.

We are in the process of enrolling everyone in the national health insurance program (PhilHealth) but the process is slow as a good number of our children have no known family members, birth certificates, and other records required by the system. The solution we discovered is to make Sister Fatima their legal guardian. We have also arranged for the services of a paediatrician, a child psychologist, and a dietician to complete our medical team.

The school year starts next week and the children are being enrolled in the local grade and high schools. We also have five older children entering vocational courses and college.

As we complete our organisation, TEF and CCN’s valuable sponsorship has afforded Balay Silonganan the chance to take the care of the children to a significantly higher level.  We are pleading with our local phone company to provide us with an internet line at the house(it’s a bit far and isolated). It’s a long shot but I hope that Sister Fatima and the staff would eventually be able to report and communicate with you directly.

We have found a professional videographer and he/(I) promise(s) to have a wonderful video report about the boys ready in a couple of weeks. He is doing this for free as he was impressed by the work being done.

On behalf of the children, again thank you.

Best wishes,

Dr. Estacio

Congratulations Sabine and the Earth Foundation team on the new partnering with the Green Magazine and the panned follow-on event at the House of Lords in June.I am sure that the Earth Foundation sticker will soon appear on many products from the captains of industry as the benchmark of sustainability.

Here is the video of the 2013 PEAB Awards.  As you can see, the TEF team played a very active and visible part.  Follow-on event now planned at the House of Lords in June with a presentation to parliamentarians and captains of industry.

SUSTAINABILITY HEROES ANNOUNCED AT GREEN CARPET AWARDS

Lloyds TSB People and Environment Business Awards (PEABs) 2013

The final winners of the 2013 Lloyds TSB PEABs were announced and heralded in a glittering green carpet ceremony on 7 May 2013 at One Marylebone, London.

Presented by author and presenter Janey Lee Grace and hosted by PEAB founder Jarvis Smith, notable speakers included Chairman of The Earth Foundation Lord Laird, Chair Judge Leo Johnson, last year’s winner Juliet Davenport of Good Energy, the PEAB’s presented awards in 13 categories, with overall PEAB Champion announced as Belu Water.

Lord Laird commended both entrepreneurs and mainstream businesses for adopting green and sustainable practices The PEAB Awards have opened my eyes to the many types of successful business created by a new generation of responsible entrepreneur.  I like to refer to the time we are in now as the ‘Sustainable Evolution’ as opposed to the Industrial Revolution.  The green leaders I have met today are those who are showing us how it is done.

There is also the reminder not to forget my Parliamentary colleagues at Westminster.  It is important to actively engage with your country’s Parliament to educate, teach and help us make things happen with you.  My door is open and I look forward to continue to remain involved with this positive initiative, both through The Earth Foundation and also working with Jarvis Smith to help spread the word of all your good work.”

This second PEAB event celebrated how green initiatives can be good for business as well as the planet; showcasing excellence and innovation from individuals or teams who have contributed to the “greening” of UK businesses.

The Earth Foundation team at the People and Environment Achievement (PEA) Business Awards in London on 7th May 2013.  The Earth Foundation was invited to be the 'good cause' partner of the event this year and also sponsors of the Work in the Community Award for Community Interest Companies, presented by Lord Laird to the worthy winner.  www.peabusinessawards.com
These awards are the green business Oscars and the invitation to play such a high profile role at this event is an honour and important recognition for The Earth Foundation and its place in the ever growing green economy.
Johanna will create a photo-album to tell our supporters more about the event.

Consquences

Inaction cannot be justified.

The consequences of unmitigated climate change include massive loss of wealth and loss of life. Sea level rise, flooding, drought, storm intensification, and reductions in crop productivity are several of the predictable consequences of climate change.
